Groceries In the grocery department, we are all very lucky in the Arlington area. We have Whole Foods in Arlington proper and Trader Joes, My Organic Market, Kennedy's Natural Foods are close by in Falls Church and Alexandria. We are also lucky to have many Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms that deliver to Arlington. Here is a good list from which to start, VABF. Lastly, we have fantastic farmer's markets in the area, a few run year round. Carpet Two different brands were recommended to me, Earthweave and Nature's Carpet. Both are available at Amicus Green Building Center in Kensington, Maryland. Wool padding is available as well. Cleaning supplies This is a nice and easy one. And, contrary to popular geographic belief, Myanmar is located at 7810-C Lee Hwy. in the Merri-Falls Shopping Center. The ruling military junta of the country of Burma prefers to call the southeast Asian nation Myanmar and the restaurant in Falls Church borrows the same name. One of only two Burmese restaurants in the entire metro area to serve authentic Burmese food—and it only seats about 35. (The other is Mandalay in College Park, Md.) Myanmar is typical in its format: very small, dimly-lit, pink-flowered plastic tablecloths and trinkets from the homeland. The menu, however, is anything but. With gas prices skyrocketing and carbon-footprint consciousness going mainstream, more and more cities are betting that Americans are finally ready to make biking part of their daily commute. Denver and Minneapolis will also kick off bike-sharing programs this summer, and Chicago, San Francisco, Portland, Ore., Seattle, and Arlington, Va., are in talks to launch their versions within the next year or so. Why the renewed interest? One word: Vélib. Paris launched the Vélib program a year ago, and while très cheap (its name is French shorthand for "free bike"), it's actually not free. Although places like Copenhagen, Lyons and Barcelona are big on bike-sharing, the City of Lights boasts the crème de la crème, with 20,600 bikes and about 1,450 stations--four times the number of Parisian metro stops.
