We go through a lot of batteries -- I think rechargeable is the way to go. After much looking, this charger seems to offer the best functions for the least money.

Yes, I have this one too. It even brought back some supposedly dead batteries back to life!

Rounding out my gift card purchases for the day is the re-release of Roxette's 1999 6th album. I love all the songs from it that made it to The Ballad Hits, and the thing about Roxette's more mature material is that it takes a long time to grow on me (and most other people, I suspect). I bought Tourism a couple years after it came out and it took a couple more years for me to really appreciate it. I wouldn't even buy Crash! Bang! Boom! based on the abbreviated version that McDonalds sold, but eventually received it as a gift and then it took a couple years and a lot of plays of the album straight through before it became one of my favourite albums.

I actually ordered it from Best Buy b/c I had a gift card there, but they didn't have an image. I have Videography, their first collection of video singles on LaserDisc, so now I'll be able to enjoy them again along with their newer videos.

First off, I'm not done yet, so no one get too excited. I did have the opportunity to pick up my academic regalia though, so I'm set in that department for commencement, which had better happen in June, as people are already making travel arrangements. The set I bought was only worn once, fits perfectly, and I got a bit of a discount. Considering that I want to teach -- at least part time -- I hope my upcoming commencement is just the first or many I'll get to wear it at. What can I say? I like pomp and ceremony. The gown looks even better in real life than it does in these pictures. Considering that the tux I had custom made for my wedding is the only set of clothes I've ever bought that cost more, I suppose it should. I felt really funny trying it on -- especially with everyone telling me how great I looked in it -- since I'm not finished yet. I kind of felt like a fraud. I'll post a "What I'm Wearing" when I'm actually e eligible to wear it.

I used my high school graduation gown to take the cap off of the radiator in my Cadillac... Pretty much sums up how I felt about school.

Well, I thought I was buying a four pack, but it turns out I just bought one bulb with four LEDs. In any case, it's really nice. As expected, it's a much cooler light than the halogens, which actually suits my gray billy bookcases quite well. Light output is about the same as a 10W halogen, for a fraction of the power usage -- partially because there isn't the wasted heat, I'm sure.

Got a flat on my first ride out. I like the super-light weight of the road wheels and tires over my heavy commuter tires with thick thorn resistant, slime filled tubes, but I think I at least need a pair of Mr Tuffy's to keep from fixing flats every 20 miles.

I've taken to using more and more SRAM gear, which seems to work pretty well -- as long as I remember to replace the chain every 1000 miles or so... that was a rear cassette I really didn't want to replace. So I need to pick up a few extra chains to start replacing them periodically.

I wore out my SRAM PG850 much too quick because failed to replace the chain when I should have. My LBS had the PG830 here in stock to replace it, which is a touch heavier, but sitting right on the axle, I probably won't notice.

Just had this installed to replace my completely worn Specialized FutureShock (which I think was actually a rebranded Rock Shox). It rides like a dream. Since most of my riding is on pavement, I have the preload cranked way up, which has increased my average speed by a good MPH or so. I really notice it on wet pavement because I'm now going so fast I'm kicking up all the spray into my face. The only downside to this fork was that it doesn't have a lockout, but the preload goes high enough that I don't really notice, plus if I actually hit something, there's no pain to me, the fork, or the bike. The reason I went with this one is that the steerer tube is sold separately, so I could still get a 1" threaded tube for my increasingly antiquated ride.

So this is the fork that snapped on me when I was hit by the car. Not that I'm complaining! It's failure probably saved my life, maybe even my wheel, and frame (still waiting to hear on those two). Hopefully this is all that needs to be replaced.

I had a pair of Kenda Kross 1.75"s on my ride, but I picked up a rock this past week that tore up the rear. This was the closest thing my LBS (local bike shop) had, which looks remarkably like the Kross, only it's a 1.95", so I just got it installed today while I wait for a couple Kenda Krisps, which is the closest thing I could find to the Kross, as the Kross is apparently no longer made in a 1.75".

I have to replace the fork on my MTB, and it seems that none of the forks with a 1" steerer tube anymore support caliper brakes. Since I can't do disc brakes without replacing my Spinergy's (not likely!), I'm going linear pull. Since most of my components are XTR, I'm keeping with that. I understand that these have a double linear pull on them, which makes the pads hit the rims evenly, instead of at an angle, giving better braking power and more even wear. We'll see how well they work as soon as my new fork arrives.

Shimano XTR Brake Cable...

Description Ask a Question Email a Friend Shipping | Shimano XTR Brake cables and Gray housing This is Front & Rear cables and housing

Highlights: List Price: $20.99

Comments (2)

To go with my new XTR linear pull brakes, I got XTR cables. Is there any advantage of XTR over generic cables? Doubt it, but I got a deal on them, making the price difference negligible, so why not?

So it turns out that because I have the integrated Ultegra brake / shifts on my bike, these cables didn't work -- I should have gotten the road cables. In any case, I ended up with the generic stuff they had at my LBS and I'll be selling these off.
